Favorite Osprey Photographs

I've been photographing ospreys for a little more than a year and here are some of my favorites. These are from Florida and Virginia. They are a mix of photos that I like because there's action, or the bird is looking at me as I shoot, or I just like the composition.

These birds tolerate close approach, are big, and can be very active, so they are rewarding subjects to photograph. They are plentiful in Virginia and easy to find. They nest in dead trees and on man-made structures like nest platforms, cell phone towers, and hunting blinds. I see them flying around with long sticks and dead fish. Their vocalizations are loud and easy to recognize. The big yellow eyes seem blank and dumb to me.
