Favorite Photography Locations in Utah

Arches National Park - Hike up to Delicate Arch to catch the sunset light on the arch. Be prepared to walk back to the parking lot in the dark: bring a flashlight. The parking lot is small and fills up. Get there well before sunset as this is a popular sunset location. The climb is steep. Be prepared to sweat a lot and bring a lot of water. And expect lots of people to be at the arch. Photos without people in them are possible, but I think it helps to have someone in the photo to show how big the arch is.

The Windows are two arches that are easy to get to. It's a short, steep walk from the parking lot.

Double Arch is an easy walk from the same lot as the Windows. It isn't even a steep walk. It's huge. Look at the people to get a sense of its scale.

Dead Horse Point State Park has an overlook on the Colorado River that is very cool. Watch out: steep drops! We even saw a coyote family.

Monument Valley - This is on the border with Arizona so this counts for both states. This photo was taken in Utah, looking south toward Arizona. There's a turnout at mile marker 13 that's perfect for the down-the-road shot at the rocks.

The Goosenecks - Careful! There are steep drop-offs and no real protection from stupidly falling in. This is such an enormously wide angle spot that I had to use my phone's panoramic capability to capture this photo.
